Handcrafted in West Africa
Rooted in heritage.Worn with intention.

Oluwatomisin “Tomi” Olalere — Founder
The House of Anji
Born in Lagos. Built in Charleston. A bridge between the motherland and the diaspora.
Anji began with a simple refusal: that heritage textiles belong only to occasion wear. We work with handwoven Aṣọ òkè, Ankara and Adire — fabrics with lineage — and cut them into silhouettes built for boardrooms, brunches and long walks home.
Every bag honours the women who came before us, and is designed for the women carrying the culture forward.

Why Anji
Where heritage meets modern luxury
- 01
Made entirely by hand
Cut, stitched and finished by artisans — no assembly line, no shortcuts. Detail you can feel at the seams.
- 02
Heritage textiles, honestly sourced
Handwoven Aṣọ òkè, Ankara and Adire, chosen for lineage as much as for colour.
- 03
Named for a place, made for a life
Benin, Ikoyi, Kumasi, Lokoja — every silhouette carries the story of the city it's named for.
- 04
Built for everyday wear
Structured bases, reinforced handles and extendable straps. Beautiful, and genuinely practical.
- 05
Small runs, rarely repeated
Fabric is woven in limited lengths, so most pieces are never made the same way twice.

The Craft
A loom, a pair of hands, and a very long memory
Aṣọ òkè is woven in narrow strips on a hand loom, then joined panel by panel. It takes days to make a few metres — which is why no two Anji bags carry quite the same story. Our artisans finish each piece by hand: the lining, the hardware, the stitch that holds a handle for a decade.

Featured Piece
The Benin Purse
Inspired by the ancient kingdom of Benin — one of Africa's most storied kingdoms — the Benin purse is a tribute to a legacy of artistry, power and craft. Made from vibrant wax-print textiles, it is bold by design and meaningful by nature: a conversation piece and a cultural statement in one.
